For the first time in the X5's history, it has undergone quite a major redesign. While there are many changes in the appearance and additional features in the X5, BMW still offers the same engine choices. For the 2007 model year, BMW offers the X5 3.0si and the X5 4.8i.

The X5 3.0si is equipped with a six cylinder engine while the X5 4.8i uses a V8 engine unit. Both powerplants are engineered with BMW's trademark precision so as to provide adequate power. Increasing the power and fuel consumption reduction of the crossover sport utility vehicle can be achieved with the use of performance enhancing aftermarket components such as an Injen cold air intake system.

One of the most notable changes made to the X5 is the increased interior space. The added space not only increases car go capacity of the X5 but also allows for the addition of third row seats. Keeping the occupants of the X5 comfortable even on extended trips is achieved by BMW's revised suspension system. For the 2007 version of the X5, BMW equips the crossover sport utility vehicle with a dual-link wishbone suspension in the front and a four-link suspension configuration for the rear. The revised suspension gives the crossover SUV the handling that the BMW's smaller cars are much known for.

For many years, BMW's competitors in the premium crossover SUV class have been trying to surpass the X5's overall appeal and performance. And with the introduction of the 2007 model year version of the X5, overtaking the X5 has become tougher. The new BMW X5 is equipped with the latest features that one can find in advanced premium vehicles.

For 2007, BMW equipped the X5 with the Active Steering system, an Active Roll Stabilization support, and an Electronic Damping Control. Aside from those advanced features, the BMW X5 is also equipped with a rear view camera for parking convenience for the drivers. As far as its sport utility vehicle bloodline, the X5 is endowed with a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds.
